First-generation college students bring determination, talent, and resilience to higher education. But many begin their college journey without the networks that help guide students through academic challenges, career decisions, and the unfamiliar parts of college life.

This reality led to the work of FirstGen America, an organization focused on expanding opportunity and support for first-generation students, especially those pursuing STEM degrees. Through years of working with students, faculty, and institutions, FirstGen America recognized something important. Students are far more likely to succeed when they have a strong circle of people who believe in them and stay connected throughout their journey.

That understanding helped shape the idea behind My Circle of Champions. By bringing together mentors, faculty, family members, and community supporters, the program helps students build a visible network of encouragement and guidance as they work toward graduation and their future careers.
